I’ve had the pleasure of being asked to speak at Velocity 2009 and tomorrow I go to San Francisco to participate the the Velocity Summit. I’ll get to rub elbows with the cabal that is planning/producing and executing the mamouth undertaking that is running a conference.
I gave four topic possibilities all focused on MySQL or 24/7 operational scaling; our bread and butter.
high availability options for MySQL; which work (and where they work).
– talking about rings, replication, mmm, drbd, sharding and how these options affect application design, scaling, and operational support
why we still prefer replication as a HA solution.
– automagic failover cannot be as smart as a DBA
how to extend and enhance a wetware NOC with good processes and software.
– things we’ve learned running 24/7 with dozens of customers and environments and hundreds of cooks in the kitchen.
what to look at first when a new db goes into production.
– scaling gottchas for those who don’t actually get to do testing under load.
When the time slot and title are finalized, they’ll be posted on our events and public appearances page.
In the mean time, check out these videos from last years Velocity speakers.
