Oracle introduced the new Database Appliance X3-2 March 5, 2013 and it brings some exciting specs and usability that has been greatly anticipated from the community.
It further changes the scene from “RAC-in-a-box” to “Virtual Machines in-a-box”..
Oracle has announced the availability of a new more powerful Database Appliance(ODA) that besides improved performance offers a virtual platform(OVM) that greatly extends the usability of the system.
With the new version of the Oracle Engineered System virtualization is supported and resources can be allocated for other purposes than databases.
At the same time it leverages Oracle VM’s unique hardware partitioning capabilities, thereby limiting licensing requirements to actual resources dedicated to Oracle Software(@core level).
This encapsulation of license requirements (2-32 cores) is now supported by the entire Oracle software stack and not limited to databases only as with previous versions.
Oracle Database Appliance X3-2 hardware now supports 512 GB of memory, 18 TB SAS disk storage and 800 GB flash.
Compared to earlier version it now offers:
- 2x performance
- 4x storage capacity
- 3x flash
- 2.5x Memory
Our 360 support team is excited, not only about the new specs, but specifically about the extended use it offers to our customers.
